043. Cake & Weight Loss

When my second daughter (Claire) was turning one, I hadn’t lost all the weight I had gained with her pregnancy. (Shocker! We need to normalize this, actually).

So when I started to plan her birthday party, I immediately got stressed about how I was going to incorporate cake into my “eating plan” that day.

I was thinking..

❌ Maybe I should skip a meal to “afford” the cake and pizza.

❌ Maybe I should just skip the cake and pizza all together

❌ Maybe I can text the cake person - ask them for the ingredients, and figure out the calories (true story: I actually did this once).

But, then I remembered that I didn’t want to live like that and that wiping out entire food categories never really works, so I gave myself different options.

What if you could choose one (or all!) of these options…

➕ I’m going to have one piece of cake, and move on.

➕ I’m going to enjoy a piece of pizza, and move on.

➕ I’m going to eat protein, fruits, and veggies during the day - so that when I get to the birthday party, I won’t be super hungry, and I can have a piece of pizza and cake without guilt, and (you guessed it)..move on!

In this week’s podcast episode, I’m going to walk you exactly through how I think about a day of weight loss eating when there is a special event to attend, and of course, how you can have cake at your kids’ birthday party, too.

I promise this approach is way more safe and effective than trying to avoid the cake altogether (only to binge on the leftovers later when everyone leaves.)

Best,

Molly
